The Curra Swans outscored the Hawks by 31 points in the second half to record a hard fough 14 point win in their Round 1 AFL Townsville RMS Premiership clash on Saturday.
It was a great come from behind win against the Hawks at Muldoon Oval, after a slow start the Swans over ran the Hawks in the second half kicking 9.6 to 4.5 to set up the win.
With a host of players out the side struggled early and went to the long break 17 points behind with the task of kicking into the wind in the third term. But as often is the case at Muldoon Oval if you can win the third term against the wind you go on and win the game and thats how it unfolded.
A good first up win and some selection headaches for coach Mark Chambers next week.
In the early game the Swans went down by 33 points to a more determined Hawks.
Not the best result first up but a lot to take out of the game fro the Swans.
The 5 best players were all new to the Swans and added to the belief that the Swans depth this year is greater than its been in a long time. Nine players that didnt play in 2011 were in the 22 and it will take time to settle.
With at least 6 senior players due back and Brad Nichols and Robyn Kerr due to make their season debuts this week we should see a much stronger squad this week against the Lions.
This week the Swans take on the Lions and we all look forward to the return of the Lions to the senior ranks.
