SWANS 13.14-92
HAWKS 7.14-56
The RMS Curra Swans kicked 6 last quarter goals to run out convincing 36 point victors in their round 4 clash with the University Hawks.
The win was set up however in a gutsy 3rd quarter effort that saw the Swans outscore the Hawks by a point into a strong Muldoon Oval wind. The hawks kicked poorly with the wind (2.6) and the Swans scrambled and fought their way to a match winning 3.1 to set up the final quarter onslaught.
Despite bruised and tired bodies from Wednesday nights physically demanding Anzac clash with the Tigers the Swans did not tire as some may have expected. Instead they went from strength to strength and completely outplayed the fresher Hawks in the final term 6.3 to 1.3
The Swans had many stand out contributors on the day including first year AFL player Cameron Nuggins, North Cairns recruit Sam Raumer, James McLaren, Kynan Isokangas, and David Faulds. All led superbly by the diminutive Adam McDonald who once again was the target of unnecessary and unsportsmanlike attention.
The highlight of the day coming after Macca was knocked over while doing up his boots. A goal to the Swans and a normally sedate McDonald letting the offender know all about it. When will opponents learn the more you try and take the little bloke out the more he and his many supportive team mates fire up.
A great start to the season with 3 wins and 1 loss from the opening 4 rounds sees the Swans sitting outright second on the ladder. Round 5 brings a welcome bye for the Swans ahead of 2 big away games against the Tigers and Bulldogs.
Goal Kickers: S. Raumer 3, C. Nuggins 2, A. McDonald 2, A. Moore 2, B. Jamieson , N. Wescombe , J. Sweetman , J. McLaren
