The RMS Curra Swans turned the tables on the University Hawks to book a showdown with neighbours Hermit Park in the AFL Townsville Preliminary Final.
Curra turned their round 19 loss by 46 points into a hard fought but resounding 15 point win in the 1st Semi final at Muldoon Oval on Saturday.
The win was really set up in the first quarter with the Swans keeping the Hawks to 1 goal with the wind. Taking full advantage in the second the Swans skipped out to a 15 point lead at the main break courtesy of a 4 goal to 1 effort.
The Hawks however did not make the same mistake again and took full advantage of the conditions to take the lead by the barest of margins heading into the final break.
The Swans turned it on in the last though scoring 4.6 to run out 15 point winners and book a Preliminary Final berth against the Tigers at Tony Ireland Stadium on Saturday.
The last time the Swans made it to the penultimate game it was also against Hermit Park in one of the all time thrillers of AFL Townsville finals football. That game went into overtime and the Tigers prevailed to progress to the Grand Final.
Lets hope this time the Swans can go one better and make their long awaited Grand Final appearance.
It’s finals football and anything can happen if you want it bad enough.
