Originally from South Australia much of Faulds footy life was spent in Broome, Western Australia where he had a short stint with the Towns Demons before joining up with Beagle Bay Bombers.
Faulds won the 1990 West Kimberley Football Leagues Best and Fairest and also captained that Leagues representative side.
Upon moving to Townsville Faulds took up the role of coach of the Magnetic Island Magpies U12 coach guiding them to success in 2003
In 2006 and 2007 Fualds was at the helm of the Swans U15 premiership winning sides.
2008 he guided the Swans U17s to premiership glory and picked up the Junior Association 2008 Coach Of The Year award along the way
.
In essence he has coached much the same side as they moved through the age groups. Now as these players begin to make the transition into the senior ranks it is Faulds who is charged to guide them from junior success into senior success.
Club President Scot Beynon believes Faulds was the perfect selection to guide these young players from junior boys to senior footballers. “He knows these lads and they look up to him and respect him”.
Beynon said the club as a whole is excited about the future with a good blend of experienced players, new recruits and the junior lads coming through.
The club is at the dawn of a new era and Faulds has the job ahead of him. That job will be made easier however with the return to the Club of former premiership coach Peter Pyle along with premiership player Simon Johnson on board as assistant coaches.
Faulds is looking forward to working with men with such good footy smarts and along with team manager Lindsay Gordon he believes the club has got the right structures in place to enable success to flourish and grow.
Faulds said that to have these people in support brings diversity and experience and that will be good for the playing group.
Faulds is looking to help build overall Club strength and success and to cultivating an atmosphere of competitive football with an emphasis on enjoying your footy and playing to the best of our ability. “You must be competitive in all aspects of the game but at the same time you have to enjoy your footy so we will be looking to combine those facets of the game and foster a winning attitude. If we can achieve that, and I believe with the playing group and support staff we have that we will, then success will naturally follow.”
Diversity with training and fitness are other areas the Swans new coach is looking at. To make training a challenge yet not predictable. Different methods, different venues and the ability to train longer under the new lights all will go a way to make players want to train to get the rewards.
Faulds freely admits it’s a big challenge but he is committed to it and won’t be taking it lightly. He plans to stay on top of things by keep his finger on the pulse and by utilising and listening to the people around him to help breed a winning culture at the senior level.
