AFL seniors in Townsville in 2009 will be completely restructured with the
presidents of all the senior clubs administering the association.
Official kick off for season â09 is Sat 21st Mar with the Swans playing at home.
On the 14th Mar Hermit Park will be hosting a lighting carnival to launch the season.
As President of the Club I foresee exciting times ahead for Curra Swans and at the
moment there is a positive murmur vibrating within the club. However it must be
stressed that the job has only just begun and we can not afford to rest on our
laurels.
I would like to take this time to thank the committee for their hard
work, namely Gina Simm whoâs work as secretary is the glue that unites the other
three members on the committee. Lyndsay Gordon has been given the role as
senior vice president and has also undertaken the role as Senior team manager.
Two weeks in to training and we had 30+ on the track last Thursday which shows
that the boys are keen. Momentum is a wonderful thing and will only continue
with everyone heading in the same direction. Steve Simm has taken on the job as
Junior vice-president and with sign-on this Sunday his hands will be full
trying to co-ordinate numbers for un9âs, 11âs, 13âsâ 15âs and 17âs.
It must be stressed that any help from anyone within the club will not be turned back. We
are still seeking coaches in 9âs, 11âs and 13âs. This year the committee has
also made it compulsory for all teams to have a manager.
Chistine Rovets has done a wonderful job organizing our merchandise so apart from minor glitches
everything will be available on sign-on.
We have been informed by AFL QLD that insurances have gone up slightly this year therefore fees will reflect this
change. The committee has decided a no pay no play policy will be implemented
this season as we cannot take the risk of playing an uninsured player. In
saying that we are also aware that the financial climate is unstable at present
and are prepared to allow payment schemes. I will stress however that a time
frame will be put in place and we will strictly police this.
Currently we are without a canteen convener and treasurer so if anybody knows
somebody who would be interested feel free to contact us.
Shane âNudgeâ Malone will be running the bar this year so if you are thirsty go and have a chat.
Normy has once again taken on the job as chief trainer. We are fortunate to
have someone with such vast knowledge. Anyone with an interest in this field
would do themselves a service by being around him. The club has gained a $4000
grant to put app 20 people through a strapping course so if you are interested
contact one of us.
As this is my first correspondence for the year I would like to highlight the
fact the every position within the club is voluntary. Trying to co-ordinate
nearly 200 players, coaches and staff is an onerous job. As you can see there
are few of us so please whenever you see something that needs to be done, HELP.
Scot Beynon
President.
