Wednesday night was the second official training run for the juniors and numbers were encouraging. There was a combined number of 30 for the under 9âs and 11âs. Darren Pearce has put his hand up to coach the 9âs which is great considering Darren comes from a Rugby background. Anna Stagnitta will manage that team. Ray Keen and seniors coach Simon Johnson will co-coach the 11âs with Simons better half Mellissa managing.. Two of our promising under 17âs in Joel and Max will coach the 13âs with Ray King managing. Peter âFoxy â Johnson is once again doing the 15âs with Steve Bennett managing. Robin Kerr (aka Pumba) will coach the 17âs with Steve Sim backing up again to manage. Bob Hillier has taken on the job as football operations manager and will oversea all officials so if you have any queries Bob will kindly lend you an ear. The committee are grateful that all these positions have been filled this early into the season. We sincerely appreciate your time and hope you all have a wonderful year. Remember the clubs motto this year is â Loyalty, Endeavour and Commitmentâ. The club this year has decided not to pursue the big corporate dollar for sponsorship instead we have decided on a 100 club, where we sell 100 tickets at $100 for the chance to win signage 10m x 1.200m erected on the scoreboard for twelve months. Closing date for this will be April 25. On the 9th May during half time of the seniors the winner will be drawn. All those who have bought tickets will be invited to attend for snacks and free drinks between 1pm and 6pm. We really need your assistance to sell these tickets so if you are interested contact one of the committee or if you have a lead feel free to pass it on.
The seniors had a planned practice match in Cairns on the week-end however Hamish interfered somewhat. Fortunately for those who made the trip The Townsville masters were able to give them a scratch match of two 15 minute halves on Cazalys oval. All those who played enjoyed the experience of playing on the best surface in North Queensland. Afterwards some of the oldies ie Foxy, Pistol, Stoney and Dogboy played for Townsville in a combined Masters carnival and represented their club with pride.
The seniors first game of the season will be against the Bulldogs at TIS stadium on the 18th April. Prior to that we will be playing in a pre-season blitz on Neil French Oval on the 4th April and on the 28th March we travel down to Airlie Beach to play in the Mackay pre- season carnival. Coaches Simon and Peter are gearing training so as we will hit the ground running come March 28, so put in the hard yards and reap the rewards.
Soon you will see progress in the building of stage one of our new development at Muldoon Oval. Our major focus will be a working bee on the 21st march. The more people who can help the more we will get done. At last toilets will be up and running for the start of the season.
Finally but not least we welcome all new people to Curra Swans and appreciate all those that have returned. The committee has been working nearly six months to prepare for this season and although the signs are looking good we cannot afford to take the foot off the pedal. The next month is vital so lets all band together, unite as one and show Curra means business.
