The Curra Swans have had to have a re shuffle in the
coaching ranks of recent weeks with job opportunities forcing original 2009
coach Glenn Faulds to step down as senior
coach. Faulds was reluctant to step aside at first but work comes first and
assistant coaches Simon Johnson and Peter Pyle were doing such a great job with
the playing group that his decision was made somewhat easier in that regard.
Faulds will still be around the club as team manager of the senior side when
work permits and is keen to be a part of the development of the up and coming
young players.
That left Johnson and Pyle to take over the role. Both
coaches have been at the Swans in the past so the transition really was to be
quiet simple.
Then Johnson was transferred to Toowoomba last week and Pyle
has now assumed the sole responsibility of senior coach.
When asked if the changes would impact on the playing group,
Pyle responded, “Not really. Simmo will be here for a few more weeks yet and I had
been taking a more hands on role of late anyway. The boys have responded well
as the weekend away just shows”
Of course Pyle is no stranger to the coaching role at the
Swans being the last to coach the Swans to a flag.
Despite the changes the club is still looking forward to the
season ahead. Club President Scot Beynon sees
it as a bonus that the Club can fall back on someone of the caliber as Pyle. “There
is undoubtedly a great feeling around the place at the moment. People can sense
the positive change at the Club and we are definitely a different outfit to
recent years. We have young players coming through, some great new recruits and
a core group of players from last season that adds some stability to the Club. We
have a fantastic support group of volunteers that do an incredible amount of
work and we are even getting phone calls from players interstate who see our
web site and tinker with the idea of moving north. We can offer employment to
people through our large network of sponsors, partners. Businesses and so on.”
Despite the changes the Swans seem to be moving forward. The
Blitz this weekend will give the club another opportunity to trial new players as
well as trying some players in different positions. From there it’s a weekend
off for Easter and then the real thing begins.
