A young Durra Swans outfit is set to take on early season frontrunners University Hawks in round 3 of the AFL Townsville Premiership at Muldoon Oval today.
The Swans are still finding their way in 2009 whilst the Hawks have det the pace early defeating defending premiers Hermit Park as well as accounting for the Bulldogs.
The Swans unbeaten U17 side has a bye this week and Swans have included 5 of the young players in their side. Max Tink, Joel Sim and Jayde Mc Gregor all have had senior experience while Khyle Goodman and Taylar Webb will make their senior debut.
Both Webb and Goodman just returned from the state U16 Championship in which they represented the Queensland Country side narrowly missing state selection.
Brent Doyle will run out for his first game after 2 attempts being thwarted by a niggling hamstring.
Coach Peter Pyle is looking for big games from Doyle and his co captain Jason Drew and Steven Tayler. Pyle said if these three can lead the way and the young players give the side much needed pace then he expects his charges to take the game right up to the Hawks.
