In the words of a few long time Swans members, last Saturday was one of the best days at the footy they had experienced at Curra.
All Junior teams won, the away changerooms and amenities block was opened, the 100 Club was drawn and the Swans A grade did their Club proud.
Report from Club President Scot Beynon.
What a day of football. In the words of many members on Saturday it was one of the best days of footy at Curra.
All our junior sides had victories which goes to show all the hard work being put in by the coaches and team managers is starting to reap rewards.
As long as the players keep listening and learning the wins will continue to happen.
Special thanks to Chris and John for stepping into the under 11s role vacated by Simon.
ItâÂÂs a pity you didnâÂÂt leave earlier Simmo the boys may have won a few more.
Whilst we are on the topic a special thank you must go out to Simon who has been transferred to Toowomba.
Simons involvement with the club has been invaluable as he brings along his extended family who are very much footy people.
We wish him the world of good and whilst Melissa and the boys are staying for a while, the involvement you and your family bring will surely be missed.
Saturday saw the opening of the long awaited visitors change rooms and adjoining toilet block.
For those new to Townsville football having toilets for the first time since the inception of Muldoon oval in 1989 has been one of the major achievements in the clubs history.
The evidence can be gathered by the number of ladies who stayed behind and partied with the boys without the knowledge of trekking all the way over to the Tigers or squatting behind a tree.
The majority of work was carried out by volunteers and although I canâÂÂt mention all of you I thank you sincerely from the bottom of my heart, however special thanks must go out to Mark Faulks, Davin Burchill, Bob Hillier and Eric Collis.
Satrurday also saw the unveiling of the inaugural winner of our 100 club.
Many of our guests had never seen a game of AFL footy and were suitably impressed.
The winners of the 100 club were Lynn and Rowan from Remax Realty.
The look on their faces when their sign was revealed during half time of the seniors said it all. This promotion can only grow in future years.
Fortunately or unfortunately depending on how you look at it, Shalom have pulled out of the under 17 competition which made all the boys available for senior football.
The experience these boys are gaining is invaluable in the development of their football careers.
When the Curra Swans juniors was formed only five years ago it was a vision to develop as many boys to a level where they would go on to play senior football for Curra. Out of our two senior sides on Saturday there was no fewer then 15 boys who had come through the ranks of our juniors.
