The Curra Swans have included newcomers Leigh Ewing and David Anspach along with star full forward Carl Ward to add some much needed bulk for their clash with Hermit Park at Muldoon Oval on Saturday.
While the Swans have definitely improved in the speed stakes in 09 they have been left a little short in the muscle stakes to date. That all changes for the Swans this week with the inclusion of three genuine big men.
David Anspach has impressed in his two outings in the reserves with a dominant display against the Bulldogs last week. Anspach is versatile player with plenty of size and muscle. Slotted into the key position of Centre Half Back he will provide plenty of grunt to the Swans defence.
Leigh Ewing comes to the Swans with a few wraps for being a key forward. Ewing showed enough in the reserves last week to show he will be a very handy player for the Swans. A genuine big six footer and strong overhead mark he will make in impact on this league.
Carl Ward also made his much anticipated return to the playing field via the reserves last week and senior coach Peter Pyle has wasted no time bringing Ward into the side.
Ward has been the Swans leading forward in recent years and Pyle is sure he will form a potent attack with young players Jarrod Hill and Mitchell Webb.
Reserves ruckman Dylan Bycroft has demanded inclusion as well with his recent performances and will provide much needed assistance to Wayne Parker in the ruck.
Taylar Webb has also been included for his second game of the season and will add some pace to the Swans backline.
Missing this week will be co captain Jason Drew and Stephen Taylor is also out with a back injury.
Key ruckman Tom Madsen is still yet to take the field due to work commitments will be a handy inclusion when he takes the field.
All in all the Swans have a far more balanced side for the match with the Tigers and Pyle is keen to see how some players perform this week.
Pyle reiterated that it will take time for the side to gel but was very happy with the progress they have made so far. It is starting to take shape and we still have a few players not playing this week including Taylor, Madsen, Drew and Billings.
We are building and it is good to see the three big blokes come into the side this week.
