Curra swans home ground, Muldoon Oval, will co host the AFL
Masters Queensland Country Championships this Sunday.
Due to the unavailability of Tony Ireland Stadium the
carnival has been moved to the Murray Sporting Complex and will be played on
both Muldoon and Neil French Ovals.
Teams from Cairns,
Mackay and Townsville with players coming from as far as Rockhampton and
Brisbane will participate.
The Country Championship is AFL Masters Townsvilles showcase
event and the last serious event for many regional players before the national
carnival in October.
Competition for the shield is expected to fierce this year
with Cairns very keen to end
Townsvilles dominance of the carnival.
Organiser Luke Chapman is expecting a great turn out both on
the field and at the after games party at Monsoons.
While age may not weary them the players of yesteryear are
not as quick as they once may have been. But the skill level of some of the
participants is every bit as clean as when they were in their prime.
The adage the older we get the better we were may be very
apt for a lot of these players but for a glimpse of some good old fashion footy played in the
best spirit of the game, fun, come along on Sunday and cheer on the golden
oldies.
There are still some spots left to fill so any player
interested in dusting off the boots give Luke Chapman a call on 0428 476715
