Curra Swans Coach, Peter Pyle challenged his players behind closed doors after the Swans let another game slip away against Hermit Park on Saturday.
In a match that was evenly fought all day Pyle was disappointed that his side didnt do enough in the final quarter to overcome the Tigers. The Swans trailed by just 2 goals at the final break and were kicking to what appeared to be the scoring end in the last term.
To the coaches disappointment it was the Tigers who had the better of the term to run out 23 point winners and consigning the Swans to another defeat.
Pyle passionately challenged his players after the match to no longer accept close enough as good enough.
The Swans have let games against all sides slip through their grasp this season and Pyle wants his players to be more hungry for success and less accepting of nearly winning.
The Swans got to within 7 points during the final term against the undefeated Hawks, led the Bulldogs by 8 points with 8 minutes left in the match and had their chances against the Tigers on Saturday.
In each instance Pyle believes his side should have won but failed to finish off their opponents.
The Swans have definitely improved this season and are beginning to emerge has a genuine threat to all sides. But the Swans need to now lift beyond that improvement and start winning matches to complete the improvement.
All in AFL Townsville know the Swans have gone through major changes to the playing group in the off season but the time for accepting honorable defeats is coming to end.
Against the Tigers on Saturday it was the usual players that stood up for the Swans with Captains Jason Drew and Brent Doyle outstanding once more. Mid season recruit Tyson McNeil proved last weeks sensational debut was no fluke with another dominate display.
Forward Mitchel Webb seems to enjoy having big man Carl Ward alongside kicking 5 goals, while Adam McDonald and Blair Hill gave solid performances.
Next week the Swans face the undefeated Hawks and although they face losing some key players for the all important clash the Swans players must make the jump to the next level.
