Last Saturday the Curra Swans consolidated their stranglehold on the U17 competition with a comprehensive 225 point thumping of the Thuringowa Bulldogs, 36.15.231 to 1.0.6. It was the biggest ever winning margin by the lads, half of whom are now in their third year together as a playing group.
As a further challenge pre game, the lads set themselves a task of playing quick, targeted, possession footy, consistently over all 4 quarters. They achieved their goal convincingly by restricting the Bulldog’s possession, applying pressure when the Bulldogs did have the ball, winning the hard balls at ground level, dominating the centre bounces, backing each other and creating space across the forward line. Having possession of the ball is one thing but what you do with it is another. The lads completely outplayed their opponents in all aspects of the game. The significance of the win is even more astounding given there were only 15 actual U17 players out of a team of 23, 3 U15 lads backed up from their earlier game to help out on the day. Thanks once again to Sam Britton, Jake Badoino and Jake Ward for participating on the day.
It was extremely difficult to select a top 3 on the day. Best on ground were Michael Roverts, kicking 10 goals, whilst assisting with many more, Jayd McGregor, 8 goals, and David Faulds. Faulds and Joel Sim worked tirelessly all game out of the centre and across half forward, Harold Maroroa and Wally Wall dominated their wings, Taylar Webb, Liam Hope-Shackley and Brodrick Hill stood solid in defence, Brad Simmons again rucked well all game and Max Tink, Khyle Goodman and Tristan Dennis ran riot in the forward line. All in all, another great team effort.
