The Curra Swans may have put 2 points on the premiership table but the players were gutted after their nail biting draw with the second placed Bulldogs at Muldoon Oval on Saturday.
The Swans led by a point deep into time on in the final quarter after Mitch Webb kicked a point from a sharp angle to put the Swans in front. A harsh fifty meter penalty took the Bulldogs deep into attack to score a point themselves to tie the game back up and that was the way it was to stay with the siren sounding a short time later.
Some may think the Swans must be happy that they didn’t lose but judging by the way the players trudged off Muldoon Oval you would have thought they had lost by 100 points.
The Swans wanted this one and had it in their grasp only to see it snatched away in the dying minutes of the hard fought match.
To make the result even more painfull, the Swans had come from behind at the last change to hit the lead early in the quarter only to lose four of their best players on the day to injury in the last half of the final term.
16 year old Taylar Webb was near on the Swans best when a heavy head clash ended his game. Stephen Taylor limped from the ground and joined captain Jason Drew on the bench and pacey midfielder Nathan Wescombe re injured his shoulder.
With players going down faster than a V8 supercar it is a credit to the Swans they managed to hang on for a draw.
Coach Peter Pyle was pleased with his players effort and commented after the game on the young Taylar Webb. Webb is the hardest 16 year old Pyle has seen in a long time.
Young Broderick Hill had another outstanding game in the ruck and his future looks to be promising. The scary part is he is only going to get bigger.
Brent Doyle again was inspirational and James Long had his best game of the season.
Carl Ward kicked three goals and is staring to find form and more importantly his team mates are beginning to get used to the big man being there and are starting to look for him more and more.
Another youngster in Jayde McGregor chipped in with two goals and along with fellow U17 players Joel Sim, Max Tink and Taylar Webb provided pace around the ground for the Swans.
Next week is a bye followed by the annual Eric Johns Cup Day against Hermit Park Tigers. With out a doubt the biggest day on both Clubs calendar outside the finals.
