Curra Swans captain Brent Doyle is AFL Townsville's Best
& Fairest player for 2009.
Doyle polled 14 votes to win the WJ Williams Medal by five
votes from joint runners-up Edi Tommasini (University Hawks), Nathan Wescombe
(Swans) and Brad Kline (Thuringowa Bulldogs).
Doyle's win is a boost to the Swans heading into Saturday's
knockout semi-final with Hermit Park.
The veteran centreman, who also won player of the year, had
not expected the honour in a season which has seen the Swans restricted to two
wins and a draw from 15 matches.
It has been a bit of an indifferent year for the club, and there
is some good players in the league, Doyle said.
I just think it's a bit of sympathy for an old fella running
around.
Doyle, 36, a premiership player with the Swans in 1997 and
1998, this year returned to Townsville after 10 years away with the army.
The Swans also boast this years league Rising Star in Adam
MacDonald.
