The Curra Swans will head into next Saturday’s Preliminary final showdown with Hermit Park full of confidence.
After many years of bowing out in week one of the finals our the Swans won through to the penultimate round of the season with a resounding 1st Semi Final win over the Hawks last at Tony Ireland Stadium on Sunday.
While the Swans headed into the game as favourites they were certainly never going to underestimate their opponents. The Hawks had vastly improved in recent weeks, with a win over the Tigers and going close to knocking off the Bulldogs the week before.
The Swans got off to a good start and took a 13 point break into the first break. The next two quarters were evenly contested with the Hawks throwing everything they had at the Swans. By the last change both sides had added a further 6 goals and Curra went into the last quarter with a 15 point margin.
The Hawks lifted early in the last and the momentum of the game was shifting slightly their way.
Two quick goals to the hawks and the margin was reduced to 2 points and the challenge had been well and truly issued by the Hawks.
Swans of years past may have withered under the pressure but there is something different about this group. When the time came to be counted they stood up and as a whole put the Hawks to the sword with a 7 goal burst that propelled them into next weeks Preliminary Final against Hermit Park.
Goal Kickers: D. Noonan 4, M. Braun 3, J. Macansh 3, D. Stout-Milkins 2, T. Dennis , M. Tink , M. Wheeler , M. Palmer

The Swans Reserves also won through to the Preliminary final with a gutsy 18 point win over a determined Lions outfit. An exciting rematch with Hermit Park awaits this Saturday. The sides last met 2 weeks ago in the final home and away match in what was a thrilling contest. More of the same looms in this coming encounter.
