REVIEW
It's eleven down and seven to go in the DVFL home and away series. Last week in one of the most exciting matches in the Lakies' short history, the red and whites downed Greensborough by three points. This displaced Boro' from the four allowing Heidelberg in on percentages. The Tigers were surprised last Saturday and just scraped home from Epping by four points. Montmorency eclipsed Diamond Creek 116 to 38. Macleod beat West Heidelberg 65 to 33, while Eltham thrashed Templestowe by 159 points.
Earlier in the season I claimed that only two teams looked set for the finals- Mont and Lakies. I still stick by this prediction. The closest any side have got to the Magpies this season was Lakeside, 11 points, in the third round - and at Montmorency. Lakeside I think, have proved themselves so far. Today is the really big game and could be a "grand final" preview.
Today's game brings together the two teams that will probably fight out the grand final. It will be a very even game and a battle of both backlines. Just how many goals can Denmead get today? He got six at the last meeting but will be closely watched by Henderson this afternoon. I'll have a go for Lakeside as any team who can beat the Red and White here at Moore Park will have to know every rut in the ground as the Lakemen do.
editors note: Montmorency and Lakeside did play off in the 1954 grandfinal. The game was drawn with Montmorency winning the replay by one point.
