It what was a great weekend for the club the 2s started the day with a perfectly timed run to win with the last kick of the day or more affectionately known as a Spewy. No one really knows if it was a point or goal but as soon as it left the boot the game was over. The seniors started slowly but soon had goals on the board, half time saw the scores almost level but after the 3rd quarter flew by we were a good margin in front and survived the late challenge to move on.
This week the Roosters move on to the big Barn Dance for a chance to end the Tigers stranglehold and the 2s will seek to deprive the Bulls of the Cup coming from 5th on the ladder.
Last weeks Best Player ticket went to Debri “Carnage” Kutroli in what was a very even spread of better players.
Around The Traps Keith was enjoying the free nibbles after the game and told me back home the club would put on a sit down meal and drinks free for players. I asked him how they were going this year he said their finished they went broke. Legends Game Early in 2011 to mark nothing at all apart from a bit of social banter at the bar one week the Young Christian Workers of West Preston will take on the thugs from Reservoir Lakeside. To qualify to play you must have played with either club prior to the merger.
What the hell happened.
It all started when Smasher got hold of a bone, with some help from hubcap and Vin we got some new faces to the club, Ali gave us the need for some new signs and Matty, Fred & Co got em up, Cooly painted some lines, and Bill Jones kept the time, Kev put up some tables & chairs & got the goal post pads out, Tony does what he normally does but refused to do it in black pants, Junior, Cactus & Jedd (Or Icey) kept the drinks flowing with the help of Ann & Helene, Sean and his crew kept the juniors refreshed. MFC put the lineyes on Di, Pauline, Donna, Bev & Rhonda kept the nourishment up and Cosima made the delicious sandwiches, Kate made some cupcakes, Frank & John got it ready to eat & drink. John picked up the records & balls and with Frank produced the best player tickets each week, Steve, Des, Rod, Cooly & families kept the meals coming Thursdays, Mario helped on wed & fri behind the bar but couldn’t have done it without Harp. Mel did most of the medic work supported by Laura and later by Trin, Kelly, Belinda & Greg, Auqa was run by Garrett, Justin,Liam McVeigh & Matty V, Turbo kept the lads out of jail, Justin did everything tackling, water, runner, medic & when he got bored decided to play. Tyla was brilliant on the scoreboard, Haydn & Garrett took some video G rated of course, Hayden, Laura, Smiley, Frank, Turbo & Tony all starred as team managers, David & Tony kept stats, Bomba ran a fine raffle, the mess was eradicated by messrs Hyde & O,Neill when in the country, Tommy tidied up. It all couldn’t have been worth it without Vin, Tony, Harp, Matty, Nathan, John, Laura & Haydn leading the groups. Running was enjoyed by Jason, Polly, Ducky, Daniel. Kev & Tex ensured the umps were safe. Mary, Ann, Helene & Gang have ensured the finale will be a success. Don’t forget the club operates over the summer months supporting the Preston YCW District CC Thursdays to Sundays.
