A huge crowd turned up to Maccy Park for the season opener last weekend, providing a great atmosphere around the ground and netball courts all day. It was great to see the local community supporting the club and enjoying local sport again. Thank you to all who attended and made it such a special day both on and off the field.
Last Weekend
Our senior footballers had a 69 point win over the arch rivals Melton South and retained the Darren Stanley Shield. Cottsy was pivotal with his usual class and poise shining through, as was Jack Walker who received the best on ground medal from the umpires. Ryan Carter showed he’s just as much of a gun up forward and he is down back with a 5 goal haul – including a barrel from outside 50 after the final siren! His brother Liam managed 3 goals, as did Klixy in his first game for the club – if only he could’ve kicked straight!
In the reserves, Stretch took home the best on ground medal. Griff was a star in defence, while Sony and JH showed their class in what finished up a 29 point win. The Bloods keep the Phil Littlewood Shield in our cabinet for another year.
On the netball courts, wins to B, D and E Grade started the year off well for those teams, while our A and C grade teams didn’t get the points there were some encouraging signs for both teams.
This Weekend
This week, our Under 19 footballers start their season after a bye last week. New coach Neil Howlett has the boys ready to go and we wish him well for his first match in charge. Adrian Monitto will captain the team, with Jed Gleeson and Jake Sygidus as vice captains. A few boys will be wearing a Bloods guernsey for the first time and we welcome those boys to the club – they have already made a great impression on the training track and in practice games.
Making a return this year are two match day awards with thanks to Schnitz and Ajays Pizza. No doubt our players will be doing their best to get their hands on one of those vouchers in upcoming matches.
Sponsors
Nabby has the phone at the ready to hear from prospective sponsors – if you’d like to join our club as a 2021 partner please give him a call. We are so grateful to those who have already jumped on board for this year. Also on the sponsorship front, Player Sponsors are a great way to support the club – you can find sponsorship info on our website, or enquire at the club on a Thursday night.
Meltonians
Meltonians Memberships are still available – see Denis Mawson at the clubrooms on a training night to sign up.
May Calendar
The calendar is jam packed throughout May. On May 1, its our premiership reunion day at the home game against Sebastopol, followed by a ‘Sporting Icons Games Night’. On May 8 we have a night match at Darley, on May 15 it’s East Point at home with our $3k draw that night, and we back up at home with another game on May 22 against Redan. On May 29 we’ve got a bye weekend, but a Trivia Night at the clubrooms, followed by the Western Jets playing at Maccy Park on Sunday May 30. No rest for the committee just yet!
Triple M Rush Hour
Bloods fans should tune into Triple M's Rush Hour tomorrow (Thursday) - you'll hear a familiar voice talking to Billy & JB....providing he manages to take a break from selling cars.
Website
Check our website - meltonfnc.com.au for all the info you need about what’s happening at the club and remember to like our page on social media.
That’s all for this week folks, on behalf of the committee – GO BLOODS!!
