Navarre’s A Grade netballers are the only netball side to go through to this Sunday’s Maryborough Castlemaine District Football Netball LeagueGrand Final, after the Hopper’s B Grade side went down 36-46 in their Preliminary Final against Harcourt last weekend.
B Grade put up a fantastic fight against the Lions, holding a close game until a small fade out in the last quarter. Their best quarter was undoubtedly the third when they took control of the game and put the Lions on edge, which resulted in oppositional changes at the last break. Coach Meg Newton and the B Grade girls are to be congratulated on their efforts for making it to the Preliminary Finals after having a challenging season with injuries. If they can all stick together they will no doubt come back stronger next year to go that one step further.
The Hopper’s A Grade side continued their dominance for the season by smashing Harcourt 68-21 in their Preliminary Final at Princes Park, Maryborough. By the first quarter break, Navarre already had a lead of 13 goals and this margin continued to grow rapidly. Considering how warm the weather was, the Hopper’s never showed any signs of slowing down, playing a strong solid game from start to finish.
Playing Coach Caitlyn Murphy and the A Grade netballers should be commended on their brilliant season and making yet another MCDFNL Grand Final for the fifth consecutive year. Navarre will look to bring home their third premiership cup when they take on Natte Bealiba on Sunday, in a game that is expected to be strongly contested and entertaining. The Swans made up for last year’s Preliminary Final heartbreak when they overcome Lexton in a close game and booked their grand final berth against Navarre. The last time these two sides met was in round 16, and Navarre got over the line winning 45-35.
