Netball Dunolly makes it back to back flags in A Grade
Dunolly has put in a stellar performance to defeat Avoca in the Maryborough Castlemaine District football Netball League A Grade Netball Final 53 to 45.
A fantastic effort by the girls in what was as a comprehensive and complete display of top class netball.
By half time, Dunolly had forged a handy lead and it appeared the Eagles could run away with the game. Positional changes for Avoca saw the Bulldogs come out firing in the third quarter and narrowed the margin to four goals with Brooke Bellenger finding range and Lucy Walkley driving through the midcourt.
Dunolly answered through Ashlee Lierich in the centre as she took five intercepts for the quarter which were converted by Ashlee Edwards and Jane King. Lierich’s influence steadied the match for the Eagles once again along with Tanya Hanley who also gained some timely intercepts in front of colleen Drummond.
Both sides lifted again in the last quarter and again Avoca made a surge for the lead but couldn’t get within six goals of the reigning premier. Ashlee Edwards was adjudged best on court in the grand final with her running game at goal attack giving her teams an option and also accuracy in the ring. Jane King scored an amazing 44 goals on the day while Ashlee Edwards scored 9.
Vicky Tierney has done a fantastic job as coach in winning the A Grade Premiership for the second time. How about a 3 Peat!
