Last Saturday, we travelled to Sea Lake for the first official game against the Sea Lake Nandaly Tigers on their home soil. The football sides were able to come home with two wins from four games. A better endeavour at the contested footy was on display early by our seniors and they reaped rewards early with Joe McGrath kicking three goals in the first term after Jye Sandiford got the opener. Numerous forward entries were the result of our mids led by Aaron Walklate and Luke Kyriakides who were in and under all day. Dean McKay and Daniel Thiesz were instrumental down back and ably assisted by Kieran Sait and Tom Finlay who helped set up attack from defence. An all round team performance helped ward off a third quarter fight back from the determined and accurate Tigers and we were able to secure a 26 point win.
The Reserves were never headed in their match and won by 105 points after holding a one goal lead at the first break. Jake Lanyon’s troops are a pleasure to watch when they share the footy around and play team oriented roles and this type of footy usually sees results on the scoreboard. Matt Noonan, Joe Tormey, Jason Ainsworth, Damien McIntyre and Jack Thompson all showed why they have played senior footy while Tyson Tauali i continues to impress, this time winning plenty of footy through the middle of the ground rather than his customary full back role.
The Under 16’s came up against a classy Tigers outfit on Saturday and were beaten to the tune of 50 points. Despite several players missing, the Navies were very competitive early with plenty of forward entries but the Tigers backline was steadfast on plenty of occasions, denying our players scoring opportunities. Ziah Tauli i was our most dangerous player while Trent Cossar, Jed Thompson, Matt Sarre, Charlie Patullo and Matt Thompson all impressive in a side looking to gain a few players back from injury.
The under 13’s showed plenty of good ball movement and determination against the Tigers but were unfortunately beaten on the day. They came agonisingly close to scoring a goal late in the game but an unlucky bounce denied them! Saying that, our boys are improving each week and will be looking to add to their two wins so far this season.
