Beautiful day for footy, still and not too cold. Later that evening, we were treated to some very talented skits from our junior footballers and netballers with the Junior 1’s and 2’s winning for the night. Congratulations to youngster Zack Williams who plays his 50th today which is a pretty good effort considering he is a first year out of senior colts. At Robe today, hopefully all our teams will work hard for a win. Remember, no teas back at the club tonight.
Junior Colts- Another great day for footy at the Bay and the boys had come to play some good footy. With a slow start, we proved to ourselves that we can play some good attacking footy. After quarter time the Burr boys didn’t score so we had plenty of the ball. Best players for the day were Tim Sullivan, Tom Sullivan, Grady Hutchesson, Nathan Cawthorne, Liam Kemp and Jarred Mansell.
Senior Colts – Mount Burr were a tall side and right from the start their height up forward caused us problems. To the boys credit we kept chipping away and kept in the game. The backline was strong with Darcy leading the way. Brodie was strong in the middle and Nic’s work rate and ruck work was keeping us in the game. At half time there was not much in it and the third quarter was the time to stand up. Unfortunately it was not us and Mount Burr set up a good lead which they maintained to get the win. It was very disappointing the way we finished the game out, with a fight and some 50 metre penalties. It’s not what I call tough or the character that should be shown. Blokes like Ben Wilke, very light and first year up, running straight lines and backing himself in, is the development and traits I like to see. Let’s front up with the RIGHT attitude against Robe.
B Grade- A very disappointing day done the Bay for the B Grade boys coming off of ten wins in a row. The Mount Burr boys proved to be a worthy opponent and played good tough footy. Best players for the day were Angus McGregor who played strong in the ruck all day. Second best was Scott Lucas and third was Izak Ransom who was a good match up on Hales. Better luck next week boys at Robe.
A Grade- Hosting Mount Burr at home, we knew it was always going to be a hard slog. With the aid of a slight breeze in the first quarter, we were able to get a 4 goal buffer which lasted the full game and as a team it was the full 4 quarter effort. With team work like this and effort, I don’t think we are too far from our best footy.
Best on ground went to Dexel (Steven Noble), who was in everything all day which shows his running ability is second to none. Second best was Big Will (McDonald) and with a four goal quarter himself, in the third, nearly won the game off his own boot. Third best went to Ryno (Ryan Fox) off the back line. His rebound was brilliant all day. Special mention has to go out to Brodie Murdoch who as a senior colt kicked 5 goals for the second time this year.
