Two gritty wins from four was a reasonably successful day with the weather holding off until the final siren. Only then did the wind and rain hit with full force providing many of us with a scary drive home! A warm welcome to all of our many sponsors who are here today to share our last home game. We hope they have a wonderful day and the A Grade put on a special show for them! Today also, we are having professional club photos taken (just to please Zoned out Zorro), so please arrive on time for your allotted team photo. A big night tonight with senior Skit night – hope you are ready for some TOP class skits… ha! It should be a very entertaining night, so hang around and enjoy our last home game function.
In conclusion, some points to ponder… Is a certain junior coach in love with his phone? This same said coach is also getting in touch with his feminine side which is good to see! Is the Pokémon wars getting out of control? A few A Graders are becoming increasingly obsessed and we wonder if this is normal. Will the Robe pub ever recover?
Junior Colts – It was 2nd vs 3rd and it was a very disappointing game with only a couple of players willing to get in and get the ball. It all comes back to training. With only a couple of weeks to go until finals, we have a lot of work to do. Best players were Jordan Stark, Tom Sullivan, Tom Feast and Jarred Feast. Let’s make amends next week. Go you little Demons.
Senior Colts – After a poor display of discipline last week, I put it on the boys to show the character of young men that earn and demand respect. The arguing, back chat to umpires, and undisciplined acts were replaced by head over the footy, individual accountability for opponents and hard running for each other. This was maintained for the full four quarters which got us home over a higher placed team. Zeitzy led the way with many contested possessions and clearances and was followed closely by Matt Stark who really threw himself into the contest. Johnny, Brodie and Tommy Lampard stood up and gave plenty in the second half taking strong marks and kicking vital goals. Jacko continues to hurt teams with his great foot skills. The backline was fantastic with Aiden Higgs providing some inspired runs and hardness at the footy. Let’s now maintain the standard.
B Grade-The boys tried hard but need to work on their goal kicking. Best were “Ever reliable” Paul Millard, Matt “Yellow boots” Byrne, Gus “The Bus” McGregor, Kane “Didge” Blacksell, Jim “JR” Martlew and Chris “Screw” Driver. All played well. Let’s hope the injuries are not as bad as they looked today. At Robe we ran out of players on the bench which did not make it easy. With injured players on the field, the boys still put in hard. Well done to the those boys! Going into the finals, we need our best players’ to step up that next notch. The runner was on fire (and fuming that he has never ran that hard in a game!) Well said!
A Grade- Always knew it was going to be a hard day travelling to Robe and after a slow start and a very even first half, the boys finally got going to get a good win. The third quarter so far this year has been our quarter and after a bit of a bomb at half time, the boys came out firing, winning the quarter into the wind. Best went to Big Will in the ruck and it was yet another great tussle between Cocko and him. Second went to Benny O with another typical tough game of footy, third went to Trev, who made the slippery conditions look easy with one grab footy. Other mentions went to Jordan Murdoch, Tobei, Mark Dalts and Pothole (Matt Fox) in what ended up being a very good team efoort for a half. Keep on kicking boys!!!
