A great day for footy, rarely do we ever have four wins from four against Tant! A successful sponsors day – Thank you all those who were involved in organising this day. Also, a great night back at the club with Senior skit night. Well done to the eventual winners – B Grade netballers who put on a very entertaining skit! One last game for the minor round. Then FINALS!!! Let’s go Bay!!
Junior Colts: It was a must win game for us and it was not going to be easy. After a strong first quarter, kicking with a handy breeze, the boys took the foot off the pedal. The first quarter was fun of run and first use of the footy. Then we all wanted to get down and kick a goal, causing overcrowding of the forward line and not playing clean efficient football to goal. We all need to remember that it’s not all about kicking the goal but more about who creates the goal that is most important. Jordan Stark was named best and is stellar form. Rhys Timms was fantastic in the ruck using his body to full effect. Riley Chant had a solid game in another role as a centreman. Ben Milstead racked up plenty of touches across half back, as did Ned Wilke. Well done boys.
Senior Colts: Last week was a great team effort and the emphasis was to maintain that standard against the top team, regardless of the result. Well the boys did that and probably exceeded that, getting a fantastic win. The ball use and team work was outstanding. The development of our younger first year players was clearly evident in the way they took on and beat older and stronger opponents. I believe this has been the difference in the second half of the season, whereas early we relied heavily on individuals. As a side we have probably exceeded expectations, but now rely on Robe’s result to see if we play finals. Regardless of that, you boys can be proud with the way you have finished the season out and have grown as individuals. Well done.
B Grade: Back on the winner’s list this week boys, kicking a little bit straighter, but could be better still. Best today was Kane “Didge” Blacksell, closely followed by Muffin (Izak Ransom). Coach/Captain kicked straight then got sent to back line, but much improved accuracy though. Good warm up for the finals getting a bit of confidence back into the boys. Jimma Martlew is making a dash for leading goal kicker, as long as the current leader doesn’t play him in the back next week! Good luck Jimma and Steve. Let’s get everyone out on the track Tuesday and Thursday night and practice that goal kicking. Go Boys!
A Grade: The breeze was reasonable strong and very cold but it was still s a great day for football. Our first quarter was full of very good team football, with many players getting plenty of it. It was a pity we missed a few shots and didn’t get full advantage on the score board, but that left Frenchy with something to challenge the boys with. The second quarter into the wind saw us work hard and really have the game set up for a big win.
Third quarter was a little lack lustre until about half way through and we clicked into gear. Complacency is something we can no longer afford for this year so let’s keep our minds on the job. Last quarter conversion was pretty poor with us kicking 3 goal 11 points but it shows we are controlling the game when we are having 14 shots on goal.
Well done to Tobei Kennett on an outstanding rebounding game. Trev (Adam Taylor) was again everywhere with many constructive possessions. Jordan used his pace well out on his wing setting up forwards and also kicking 3 himself. James McGregor came back to some very welcome form with the old “reliables” Will McDonald and Steven Noble rounding out the best players.
