What a wonderful way to start the season with three wins from four despite the on again, off again rain. Great to see so many people at the game and enjoying the games being played. Thank you to those who volunteer their time to make everything run so smoothly every home game. We really do appreciate all your efforts. Congratulations to Ailie and Robbie Staples on the birth of their brand new little daughter, Torah. Happy 50th Birthday also, to Karen Bowd for last Tuesday. Call in at the Bellum Hotel (one of our great sponsors) to hopefully celebrate a win with a drink or two on the way back to the club for tea.
The Colts Committee would like to make a special thank you to Colleen Pettingill who does a fantastic job of cooking teas and supervising helpers for us on a Thursday night. Colleen has managed this for us for a number of years and her efforts are very much appreciated. People need to realise that some nights, (especially jumper presentation night), are busier than others and although we had an extra FIVE helpers, our VOLUNTEERS and Colleen can only cook as fast as they are able. The kitchen had over 200 meal orders that Thursday night which is a credit to not only the kitchen staff, but the football club.
Junior Colts: Great start to the year in the wet to come out with a terrific win. It was hard to pick best players as it was a good consistent team effort. Out of the centre, both Tim Sullivan and Sam Zeitz won a lot of the ball all day. The other players worked hard for each other, creating opportunities all over the ground. Other best players were Tom Zeitz, Blair Cutting and Rhys Timms. Well done guys, an excellent start.
Senior Colts: Windy conditions didn’t help play and our first quarter was very ordinary. We really failed to run and assist each other which was very frustrating. Fellas trying to do too much, lack of shepherds, lack of run, really let our standards down. It did pick up and by game’s end, it was pleasing to see those elements turned around. Despite the result being one way I expect a much better output in future games and despite the final result, it’s how we play as a team which is a true measure of our performance. Let’s make sure we are switched on and prepared to work hard this week.
B Grade: A good start to the year with the infamous first match we’ve all been itching for. Both team’s came out hard at the ball with good contest ensuing all over. Best players for the Bay, big Josh in the ruck, Mondo Stanton, back from knee reconstruction, Izak Ransom ran it out all day, little Matty Byrne, Will Trench, Jason Dawe, Joel Marriot, Steve Lewis and Travis Smith.
A Grade: Very pleasing start to the year considering the wet, windy conditions. Had some new faces in the side that played their role very well and will be terrific players for our club. Best players were Benny Odine. His hardness I’m sure was felt by quite a few opposition players. Brad Stephens returning to our club, was second best and showed his huge improvement from his stint in WBFL. Brad made a huge impact on the game with his great skills and hardness at the footy. Adam Taylor racked up the positions and had a great start to the year. Dog (Ryan Fox) And Poves (Rohan Povey) provided plenty on attack and run from the middle. Brodie and Ducky also played some terrific football and contributed on the scoreboard with 4 & 3 goals respectively. Big clash next week top versus second always tough against Kongorong will need to be at our best. Go Demons!!
Paul Bosco 100th Game vs Kongorong
Congratulations to Paul Bosco who will celebrate his 100th game against Kongorong this week. Paul was a part of the successful 1998 Premiership side and displays tough and gritty skills in the backline, not giving an inch in any situation. Paul spent a little time away from the club at Coleraine but returned with Glenn Fry to be a very important part of our A Grade in the past three years. Looking forward to seeing Paul blast through the packs again this year and hopefully find success in the major round once again. We wish Paul Bosco all the best today for his 100th game.
