Disappointing day at the Burr. It shows us that 10 or 15 minutes of football per quarter is not going to match it with the top teams in the competition. Fortunately, we have this week in front of our home crowd to redeem ourselves against a very worthy opponent. Well done to Pothole for his 150th (see separate article). Remember back at the club tonight for 70’s-80’s night!! Should be a lot of fun. Go Demons!
Junior Colts: Played top side at the Burr. Good tough game from our boys but wasn’t quite good enough on the scoreboard, going down by a couple of goals. The boys should learn from today’s game how hard you get to attack the footy – but overall very pleased with their efforts. Best players were Tim Sullivan, Lockie Tilley, Sam Zeitz, Liam Kemp and Ned Wilke.
Senior Colts: Thanks to Aiden Higgs, Brad Chant and Clem Smith for stepping aside this week. Well done to Aiden and Brad playing in the B Grade. The colts maintained a total team effort, in what turned out to be a one-sided contest. The amount of centering and unselfish gives enabling efficient goal kicking was terrific. Shepherds and voice was great and all players played a number of positions. Let’s keep up the good work.
B Grade: Two goals was all that separated us on the scoreboard but could have been a lot worse considering our poor football decisions. Jason Dawe was excellent around packs with loads of clearances which were 99% effective. Scott Lucas provided a consistent option up forward all day. Travis Smith was a rock in defence all game. Shaun Buchanan proved a handy addition to the side. The senior colts, Brad Chant and Aiden Higgs stepped up and showed they are more than capable of playing senior football with Aiden getting in the best. Get out to training this week boys and redeem ourselves. Xxoo
A Grade: We headed up to Mt Burr with a very young and different team to the first 3 weeks. It was a terrific contest all day a 10 minute in the 3rd quarter lapses probably cost us the game. Our endeavour and attack on the footy was a big improvement from the previous week. Best players were Big Will (MacDonald) who gave onballers first use all day and floated back taking plenty of important marks Zacka (Williams) and Marty (Mathew Martin)were again creative deep in the backline, Burls did a great job on Weise. Trev (Adam Taylor)and Dex (Steven Noble)were solid all day and continued their good starts to the year. Our younger inclusions Zieta (Jordan Zeitz), Mal (Lewis)and Johnny (McBain)gave the team a big lift. Go Demons!!!
MATTHEW FOX 150 GAMES (PORT MACDONNELL) Mt Burr
Today against Robe, one of Port MacDonnell’s loyal sons plays his 150th senior game. Matthew Fox, affectionately known as “Pothole” started his football career in the junior colts, playing in his first Premiership in 1998. Progressing through the ranks, Matt experienced his 2nd flag in the Senior Colts in 2001. Since those junior days, ‘Pothole’ has become a regular A Grader, consistently turning defence into attack. A self confessed ‘GUN FORWARD’, who has played most of his career in the backline (I’m sure each club has one!), Matthew is still working hard to achieve his ultimate goal of a senior Premiership. Having played in the 2005 and 2010 losing grand finals, all of us at Port MacDonnell hope he can realise his dream in 2011. Everyone at Port Mac especially Karen, TBD (to be delivered) and Nate, wish Matthew a great day today in this very important game against Robe. Congratulations Pothole.
