Budget Notes Port Mac vs Glencoe 25th June
Four from four once again. Well done to all. Best wishes go out to Joel Feast who horribly broke his arm in the senior colts, hopefully he is up and about very soon and is able to participate in our final series. A real shame for a talented kid who was having a great season. Also a big congratulations to Azzy (Craig Aslin), who FINALLY played his 250th senior game. Craig has been a great supporter of our club, coaching kids and always helping out when our B Grade is short- wonderful to see you reach this wonderful milestone. Great to see your team mates turn it on for you and score an important win. Well done Azzy! Today we play Kongorong at home in a match that expects to be close and tough.
Junior Colts: Started off slow again this week. Everyone was chasing a kick, not holding their positions. Tom George Feast (Little Moon) was great in the ruck again today, winning every contest, giving our side first use of the ball. Jarred Leslie Feast (Feasty) was solid in defence with great rebounds along with William Thomas Rolph (Sith), Scott Howard Balch (Baulchy and Samuel Peter Zeitz (Zeiter) with plenty of possessions all over the ground. Let’s keep concentrating on the basics. Good job, well done – thanks to Ryan Walter for playing for the Murphys.
Senior Colts: Special thanks to Adrian Agars the Glencoe coach for helping out and taking players off of us, which meant no players had to be ommitted and all got 100% game time. Thankyou to the six that went across during the course of the match, all of which contributed for Glencoe. Well done to Aiden Higgs opting to sit out and play for the Reserves making the best players and kicking three goals. All the team wish Joel Feast a speedy recovery from the broken arm he suffered in the third quarter, a devastating blow to one of our team leaders who has displayed quality football throughout the year whose form warranted interleague selection and I imagine a high finish in the league medal. Three years in succession Joel has been struck with serious injury, but there is no doubting his character which Joel has proved bouncing back stronger and more determined each time. After a disappointing team game against Hatherleigh the instruction was clear to rectify that and it certainly was from the outset and continued throughout the game. If anything we probably shared the ball too much, but I see that as a real positive sign as a team who is prepared to work for each other and it was no surprise we had 12 individual goal kickers. The first quarter was exceptional with Nick Allen winning the ruck to our onball division who gave our forwards many opportunities giving the side a strong start. It was pleasing to see Brad Chant involved in a number of centre clearances. The team continued its good form throughout the match despite multiple position and personnel changes, with all players doing their bit to record a strong win. We must continue to seek improvement individually and as a team, and be involved for all game time. You only need to reflect on Joel’s situation to realise how fortunate you are to be participating, so do it well.
B Grade: Great effort today to get up for Azzy’s 250th. With quite a few players out today for various reasons, it was a fantastic result to go top of the ladder. Everyone played extremely well and I doubt whether Coach Addy Lewis will fit back in. (Might have to come through the Senior Colts!). Speaking of Colts, a big thank you to Aidan Higgs, coming up from Senior Colts with three goals and fourth best player! Other better players were Dawey with 4 goals, Matt Ikin played well, Matty Sullivan out of the backline, Aidan as we mentioned, Michael Edwards, running all day and Izak (Muffin) Ransom. Keep up the good team game. We are playing as we finish off the season.
A Grade: Heading to Glencoe we knew we were going to be in for a tough close encounter and proved to be. We played a solid brand of football without being outstanding the win showed real character considering Glencoe continued to push to the last minute. With a tough month coming up we need to work hard on the track to improve our little deficiencies and try to improve our game to match the top side. We had some great players but was very much a team win with everyone playing their role, Will Mac Was again fantastic glad he is on our team would be a nightmare playing against him, our younger brigade in Jordan Zeitz and Johnny McBain are becoming very damaging a grade footballers and continue to put their hand up to play A grade footy, and is making them better footballers playing by the higher level. Ben O’Dine won plenty of hard contested footy as he does best, and again the backline starting to gel with more stability. Kongorong Next week lets finish with another 4 wins again and continue the demons great form across all grades.
