It was a winter’s day at the Bay and in very difficult conditions we were able to come away with four from four against our arch rivals, what a great effort. Thank you to all of our volunteers who each do their bit to make our home games run so smoothly. Thank you to our bar and kitchen staff for their efforts on a big night at the club. The band was well supported and by all accounts a great night was had. Thank you to Ian Smith for providing the Ian Smith Family Shield, and congratulations to Benny O’Dine on winning the first Ian Smith Medal. Thank you to Darren and all his helpers for the Last Man Standing Function.
This week we travel to Kalangadoo. Let’s come home with another four wins if we can boys.
Junior Colts: Excellent effort today by the Junior Colts in the wet and windy conditions. We started off well in the centre, straight down to Liam, who kicked the goal. Kongorong played good footy, with numbers around the ball which in turn created good run on play for them. A lot of credit has to go to our boys whose persistence allowed them to step up to the challenge and come home with a win. Just remember boys, it’s a team effort so everyone should be talking and encouraging one another, as we didn’t hear much talk out there today. Besides that, well done boys. Best players were Tim Sullivan, Scott Baulch, Sam Zeitz, Ned Wilke and Ben Milstead.
Senior Colts: Thanks to Legh Jenkin taking players from us to enable an 18 a side game for the u17's. In tough conditions our boys managed to play efficient footy. Our team ethic continues to grow with all players shouldering responsibility. Well done to Lachy Byrne and Nic Driver who lead positively and marked strongly up forward. Mal (Lewis)and Latchy continue to be strong contributors on ball and up forward, as does Josh Wilsmore down back. Let's keep up striving for improvement. Well done to Jack Cawthorne, the ultimate team player, who made a very successful debut in the A grade.
B Grade: Great win for the boys in excellent conditions. Today with a few boys out, we stuck it out really well. Great work to Shaney Grosvenor, working the wing like a man possessed. Excellent work to Big Trav (Smith), another great game in the ruck, throwing that body around. Good old Dawey dominated like usual. Would like to thank Petey Cotton for the magical one handed of his, good one for the highlight reel. Muffin has to go too tribunal this week, I reckon $2000 fine for umpire contact is in order. Have a good day.
A Grade: With wet windy conditions we got off to a terrific start kicking 6 of the first 7 goals and had full control of the game. The second and third quarter was an even contest Kongorong bridging the lead, losing Tobbei Matt Ikin and Trev Taylor before half time gave us some real challenges as far as rotations went but to our credit dug deep again when we were challenged and came away with a great win against our arch rival. Best on ground and smith medal winner was Benny Odine had a fantastic game and his hardness at times turned the momentum our way, Eddo first a grade game for 4 years was excellent covered plenty of ground and collected bag full of touches. Ryno Fox had a typical great game down back providing us with plenty of run Benny Nash and Benny Mac also had solid games. Some forgotten guys down back were also fantastic -Matt Fox, Matty Byrne and Zacka continue to beat their opponent’s week in week out and don’t often get the recognition they deserve. Our next 3 games are very important and will cement our spot in the top 3. Let’s head to the Doo and again bring home the four wins.
