Gallant efforts by all teams this week with three out of four wins, the only loss being the A Grade going down narrowly by 14 points. Well done to all those who made the effort in putting on a junior skit on the Saturday night. It was enjoyed by all who attended. Also, another big congratulations to Riley Chant, Tim and Tom Sullivan who represented us in the Under 15 Country Football Championships held in Adelaide last week. The boys played well enough during the week to play in the Grand Final on the Saturday and came home big winners over the Eagles team. From all accounts, all three boys played very well. Also to Jordan Zeitz who played in the Under 17 Championships, losing only one game. Last but not least, a BIG congratulations to Adam Lewis today who plays his 150th senior game and to Travis Smith who plays in his 100th senior game. Both these men have been loyal and hardworking within the club with Adam now taking the reins of B Grade coach. Well done to both of you and hoping you both can reward yourselves with a big win today! The Port MacDonnell Football club would also like to announce to reappointment of James McGregor to senior coach for the season 2012. Congratulations James.
Junior Colts: Big game today going up against top side Mount Burr. Due to the top team effort by the boys, we came home with a great win. The desperation and attack at the footy was second to none. With Tim Sullivan absent due to football commitments in Adelaide, Tom Feast stood tall and dominated the ruck all day. Sam Zeitz worked tirelessly all day and was rewarded best player. Another brilliant game by Ned Wilke, getting plenty of it but overall it was very tough to pick best players as everyone gave 110%. Keep up the good work boys. Best players were Sam Zeitz, Ned Wilke, Liam Kemp, Scott Baulch and Tom Feast. Special mention to Jake Brown on his best game to date.
Senior Colts: The senior colts played strong committed football throughout all four quarters against a determined Mt Burr side. Our persistent attack on the footy soon saw us take control of the game early and our work rate remained consistent which was a pleasing sign. Nic Allen has really lifted his work rate to a new level and was the clear dominate player on the ground. It was fantastic to see Nic take that same approach into the A grade later on and influence that game against quality opposition. Our football is not at the level it needs to be though, as sometimes our urgency tends to drop as scores become irrelevant. Thankfully we have a couple of tough games coming up, where hopefully we can display the intensity required to participate in finals, and players be challenged which can only lead to improvement. Heads down boys the work is about to begin on the track where competition for starting 18 selection will be based on training and game day performance.
B Grade: Big game as I say each week with first versus second. We started off in the first quarter well, but let them back in, in the second quarter. It was a good show of character and heart to come out in the last two quarters and play some really good footy and with the coach and Bozzy getting yellow carded, had to play some of the game with only 17 men on the field and the team proved they could do without us. Best players today was Big Gus McGregor in the ruck, Paully Bosco, who played well down back, Quentin Perryman with 5 goals as well as Travis Smith down back, Shano (Grosvenor) on the wing and Muzzy (Michael Mustart) who played well in his first game back. Travel down to Robe this week. Get behind us and hopefully get another win. GO BAY!
A Grade: A very strong effort last week against Mount Burr played some fantastic passages of play and proved we are a serious premiership threat. We had our chances but couldn’t convert when we needed too. Best players were Shaunny (Buchanon), getting better every week, getting back to his dominate best. Will again battled hard again, being harassed all day but doesn’t stop him having a influence on the game, Matt Byrne played his role to perfection as with Benny Mac and Matty Fox. Big challenge this week against Robe to try to regain second spot, go Demons
