We anticipated three tough games on Saturday against Blackburn and all three loomed as very much danger games in windy wet weather. Well, the sun came out for most of the day and we won all games. Seniors by 85pts, Reserves by 26pts against the unbeaten Blackburn, and the Under 19’s by 38 pts. The only negative was a narrow 6 point loss by the Forest Hill Eagles. From a Club Championship point of view, it was sensational with us now having an 18 point lead with 4 games to play.
The highlight of the football day was certainly the debut of Ned Coghlan, 35 years after his old man Craig played the first of his 218 senior games. Although Craig is the Club’s most celebrated player, the day was about young Ned, who found himself in the Senior side when Adam Parker pulled out on Saturday morning. No time to get nervous, he was in the deep end, and he did very well indeed accumulating better stats than a number of regular senior players. Ned had the opportunity to wear Craig’s famous #4 Jumper this year, but said No, I want to make my own history. He wears the #29, which should make another former Premiership player “ Billy” Bailey quite pleased.
Another success Saturday was the Lunch featuring MC Peter Booth and Hawthorn former stars Don Scott and Leon Rice. Well done to all involved in getting terrific numbers in a very busy Social Program. Maybe it was just people wanting to get out of the cold ??
