The Under 19’s got off to a solid start kicking four goals to two in the first quarter, after that they put the pedal to the floor scoring eight, then two, then eleven goals in the last three quarters to run out winners 25.17.167 to 4.2.26.
The only downside for the day was an elbow injury to key forward Nate Briscomb. I understand Nate dislocated his elbow and should be back before too long.
For Surrey Park, the goal kickers were an outstanding seven to Matt Goodings, five to Nate Briscomb (before coming off with an injury), Kane Henden 4, Liam Mooney and 3 Oliver Anderson 3, while Matt. Sorrenti, Ronan. Bohanna and Callum Ternes each scored one
The Best Players were Matt. Goodings, Zach Flintoff, Matt Sorrenti, Tom Badcock, Liam Mooney and Oliver Anderson
As we move into the Queen’s Birthday weekend and a break for all teams, the Under 19’s are sitting on top of the ladder three games clear of Warrandyte and a percentage of over 300. Nate Briscomb heads the goal kicking table with 26 and Captain Kane Hendon sits second with 24.
Over at Glen Waverly in cold and blustery conditions, the Reserves got off to a slightly slow start and found themselves trailing by two goals at quarter time. To their credit they fought back and trailed by just two points at half time and four points at the last break. Glen Waverley was able to pull away in the last quarter and we went down 7.4.46 to 8.14.62.
Our goal kickers were David Wright with 2 and singles to Josh Reid, Shaw Stone, Matt McBride, Rohan Cleary and Jordan Venables
The best players were the ever-reliable Matthew Anderson, Dylan Jones, Dean Spencer, Josh Reid, Nathan Dunstone and Matt McBride
With an injury-ravaged Senior Team (nine missing from our first round clash v Ferntree Gully) we welcomed new player Anthony Simpson after transferring across from Blackburn. We also saw Dec Hauser make the move from Under 19’s into the Seniors for the first time this year.
It’s fair to say the first half was a scrappy affair with just three goals to Glen Waverley and none to Surrey. The boys came out after half time and had a real crack, managing to score two goals both via great marks and long kicks by the new boy in Simpson. However the Hawks added four goals in the third, then six in the final term to run our victors 13.17.95 to 3.5.23. There looked like another one or two injuries out of the game so the break could not come quick enough for us. I’m sure coach Brett Davidson will regroup after the long weekend and have the team focussed and ready to go in two weeks’ time.
The Goal Kickers on the day were Anthony Simpson with 2 and Paul Young with 1, while the Best Players were Michael Paolini (clearly our best), Darcy Sketcher, Ben Vile, Zac Moore, Anthony Simpson and Dec Hauser
