Once again Callum ‘’SOD’’ Garvin got best on ground dancing around opponents many a time throughout the game. The boys are now on top of the ladder but still have plenty of improvement ahead, an exciting prospect for us and a scary prospect for other EFL clubs.
We look forward this week to their match against East Burwood, the clubs first in a number of years. The game will be played at East Burwood reserve and is at 10 am.
The reserves are also performing strongly despite the 1-2 win / loss ratio. Their 105.3% tells the story they have been in with a chance both the games they lost however have failed just to get over the line. Nick Coad kicking 3 goals and presenting up forward with genuine presence was judged best on. They head down to Coldstream reserve hoping to have some luck and register a well-earned win, playing at 12.15 PM.
It’s been a disappointing start on the scoreboard for the ‘Ones’, yet to register a win but plenty of positives at the club with young Panthers getting the opportunity to play senior footy in Callum Ternes, Noah Bennett, Tom Girvan, Tom Spangaro all making their senior debut this season, while Full Forward Chris Smith has started the season very positively. Despite the disappointing loss Kane Henden was very good on the day and Chris Smith yet again performed snagging 6 goals. We know the first win is just around the corner, and could be this weekend when we travel up to Coldstream, so make sure you get down to see that game at 2.10 PM at Coldstream reserve following the reserves.
Our sponsor of the week is new Bendigo Community Bank. We are fortunate, like so many clubs right around Australia, to be supported by this wonderful community-minded organisation. For a free financial health check, contact Maggie at the Surrey Hills branch on 9890 7188. If you’re in the market for a Home Loan, try them – you might be surprised! The club receives $1000 for every settled home loan!
Thanks also to those players that helped out at the Box Hill RSL Dawn Service during the week, you have represented the club in the most amazing way.
Some upcoming events:
Thursday May 3rd – Thursday Night Guest Speaker and Players Sponsors Night will be held with special guest former St Kilda President Rod Butterss, who will no doubt have some very interesting stories to tell. We also invite all of those supporters who have sponsored a player to come down and support the club – the first beer is on us, and for all those players yet to secure a sponsor we will have a ‘draw’, where for $50 you can sponsor a player whose name will be drawn out of the hat. It all starts from 8.00pm.
Saturday May 19th – Past Player’s Day will be held against East Burwood at home, it’s been some time since our two clubs clashed and the old timers tell me we used to have some great battles. Put it in your diary, is always a great event
Saturday May 26th – Black & White Night – it’s back at the Box Hill Golf Club, book your ticket through the club!
Go Surrey!
