Representing Country Victoria at the 2013 under 16 boys Australia Country Cup in Albury Wodonga, Thomas was a member of the runner up Victorian Bushrangers Basketball Team, playing in the final against NSW Kookaburras.

Representing Country Victoria at the under 16 boys Australian Nationals in Wayville S.A., Thomas was a member of the state basketball team, leading his team in blocked shots.

Thomas was in the starting 5 as a key player and team leader for the Victoria Country Settlers under 18 team at the Australian Junior Country Basketball Cup (AJCBC) in Albury Wodonga January 2014.

Again in 2015 Thomas started every game as team captain of the Victoria Country Settlers under 18 team at the Australian Junior Country Cup in Albury/Wodonga. This time he led his team to a close semi final loss to eventual winners NSW Kookaburras and his effort against opposing teams bigs was a stand out in the tournament.

After completing his first NITP year 2013-14 Thomas was selected for the Australian Basketball National Performance Program (NPP) entering him into the green and gold pathway and elite national basketball development program. In 2015 Thomas continues his green and gold basketball training in the Australian National Performance Program.

Thomas was a key player starting all 8 games at centre for Victoria Country at the under 18 Australian Nationals in Ballarat. He ended up equal 9th highest average percentage scorer for the tournament at (57.0%) and second highest overall points total for his team which concluded in seventh position. Thomas was also the leading shot blocker for his team and had a very consistent week averaging about 11 points, 3.2 rebounds and almost one assist per game. His effort at both ends of the court helped his team mates on countless occasions.

As the starting centre for the under 18 Geelong Supercats men against Werribee Devils, Thomas helped his team win the VJBL VC Reserve Championship at the State Basketball Centre in Wantirna South. Thomas kept his opponent to 8 points while dropping 25 points of his own to lead all scorers in the grand final.

Thomas Pupavac is a 6’10 Geelong local who has committed to Winthrop University in South Carolina USA where he will play alongside fellow Australian forward Xavier Cooks next year.

The Pick and Roll spoke to Pupavac about his commitment.

“What attracted me to Winthrop was how much the people cared,” shared Pupavac.

“All the managers, players, coaches, academic advisors etc. All of them showed true care and that factored highly in my decision. The way the coaches described how I would fit into the team on the court was really appealing too, they’ve got a lot planned for me in the future.”

Caporn, the head basketball coach at Basketball Australia Institute Centre of Excellence, is thrilled about Zunic and Pupavac coming to play at Winthrop and believes they will be nice additions to the program.
