The Wilpak Bayside Bombers have started off their 2012 AFLQ masters campaign with a flying start with a 36 point win over Kedron at Alex Hills on Saturday night.
The new look Bombers resplendent in a predominantly white and red strip started slowly against Kedron in a kick to kick first half which had the scoreboard attendants struggling to stay awake up to half time as the Bombers went to the break up by only 8 points. With fly in recruit Mike Tait back in town and Ada Roberts sweeping across half back the Bombers switched cross town turncoat Gavin (Torso) Kearney into the forward half for immediate dividends and a three goal return by games end. With some 10 new starters in 2012 the Bombers looked solid with their attack on the ball, Kim Dry was consistent after a solid 9,s campaign as was Michael Rennie at Centre half Forward in a dominant display and strong focal point for the season. Big Russ Bagnall and the evergreen Carlo Archille were again influential and with Darren Smith 2 goals the Baysiders finshed strong to run out comfortable 6 goals winners.
New coach Doug Knight was happy after the game, “the boys have had a big preseason and ran the game out well tonight, finished well, very happy”
The Bombers next game is against Hervey Bay away on the weekend of 14/15 April.
