The Rovers' theoretical football side was named at its 35th birthday celebrations.
The Deni Rovers named its ‘Best Ever Team’ from 1977-2011 at a function at the club’s Memorial Park rooms on Saturday
The theoretical football side was announced as part of the Rovers 35th birthday celebrations. It features 22 of the greatest ever players to pull on the blue and white.
Barry McIntyre, who mentored the Rovers in the early 1980s, was named coach of the 22-man side, while Tom Todd was selected as captain.
The team includes all three of Deni’s Pearce Medalists.
Many of the 22 selected were club captains, and three - Andrew May, Josh Bode and Terry Lumbar - are still playing for the Rovers today.
Emergencies for the side include Ron Jennings, Colin Tubb, Peter McIntyre and Shane Tasker.
Deni Rovers life member and former player, Russell Walker said a selection panel of seven experts assembled two teams in selecting the ‘Best Ever Team’ - one from 1977-93 and another from 1994-2011.
A second panel, made up of three people, then put the two sides together, cutting players where necessary.
‘‘Players had to have played at least 20 senior games as part of the selection criteria,’’Walkersaid.
‘‘It was also based on their performance while playing with the Rovers firsts - not what they achieved before or after.’’
