The Grand View Hotel bayside Bombers failed to notch up win number two against the Hervey bay Fruitbats last Saturday night in a thriller at Hervey Bay.
After a tedious bus trip north up the Bruce Hwy, just nine bus lagged Bombers disembarked the transporter, straight onto the ground and barely warmed up, the Bombers watched the bats had piled on 5 unanswered goals before they had their socks on.
The quarter time huddle was like a dressing room at Myers as the boys stretched and changed shorts and jumpers, “Lets go while were hot” was the call from first gamer junior Crowe, keen as he was, just couldn't kick the ball. The Bombers shot out of the gun with 4 quick replies and a number of missed opportunities and at the long break were just 3 goals down, having 11 scoring shots to 9. The return to the field for the all important third quarter seemed to have a little lacking, cramping, sore backs and the like, the Bats took full advantage of this and taking control of the game broke away to a 5 goal lead at the orange break. The Bombers were not done and kicked the first two majors of the last but could not keep up the pace of the rebounding bats who jumped ahead to keep that 5 goal buffer for the balance of the game. “ Not a bad effort from the boys in consideration that we have 12 pull out during the week, A long way to travel for a loss” Coach Russell Crowe said after the game,
