What a day for both grades as MFC teach Mudgeeraba a footballing lesson!

Both grades turned on some fantastic football last Saturday away to Mudgeeraba, comfortably winning both grades. The 1st team played some of their best football of the season to put the much talked about Mudgeeraba squad to the sword coming out victors 3-1. In a first half display that produced some of the best football seen on the Gold Coast in many a year Murwillumbah created chance after chance but luckily enough for the shell shocked Mudgee the score ended at HT only 2-0 to MFC. The contest was soon over in the second half as MFC got a third with Mudgee finishing up with a consolation penalty late on in the piece. Once again the Murwillumbah defence of Walker, Saye, Peate, Buchanan and Lonie, strangled the life out of the very capable Mudgeeraba attack force. This defensive unit just gets stronger and stronger with each game. It was another game that MFC did not concede a goal from general play. Our midfield force also did not disappoint with Tannock and Ruthven creating chances almost at will. MFC played keep the ball against the frantic Mudgee midfield and strung an embarrassing amount of passes together at times leaving the opposition's heads spinning. Our attack of Garside, Hurcombe and Morley caused all sorts of problems for Mudgee who in the end were lucky to get away with only 3 goals conceded. Special mention goes to our 2 subs Mory Kone and Sam Reynolds who came on in the second half and played like they had been there all game, fitting right into the pace of the game. Goals were from Tannock, Garside and Morley.

Reserve grade continued their strong turnaround in form with a crushing 4-1 defeat of Mudgee to move ahead of them on the table. There is some real quality and guts and determination about this side now and it is a pleasure to watch. Expect a big push from ressies to get into the 4 with a late run. Credit goes to the whole squad and their coach Gabe Finardi for this turnaround. Goals on the day came from the very strong and accomplished Brent 'Rooney' Malone with two, and Keelan Biltoft and Blake Gilmore with one each. Great work lads.
