MFC extend their lead at the top to 7 points!

For the first time this season MFC fell behind in the scoring, not once, but twice. This was a great test of character for the boys who came through the shaky start and asserted their dominance over the Knights, replying with four goals of their own. It was a classy Luke Morley hat-trick and a cool finish from Justin Tannock that kept MFC's unbeaten record intact.

MFC went behind very early on and were very fortunate not to go further behind when a good shout for a Knights penalty was waved away. This was unusual territory for MFC but the response to the pressure was magnificent. MFC bounced back immediately with Justin Tannock stretching brilliantly to control a long searching ball from Troy Ruthven, to then calmly slot it past the keeper. However the Knights tore up the script again responding with their own goal of quality quickly after. MFC found themselves having to fightback again and their hard work paid off with Morley glancing on a wickedly whipped in cross from Ruthven again to draw level on two goals apiece. Normal service was once again restored when Morley rose like a salmon at the back post and headed home MFC's third to take the lead. It was a dramatic first half and the fans were happy for them to go into the sheds at half time so they too could get their breath back.

The second half was a different story as MFC rolled over the top of the Knights and began to play their usual dominant possession football. Several chances were created but only one was scored as Kurt Buchanan weighted a perfect pass through to Morley who blasted the ball into the top right corner from 18 yards to complete a superb hat-trick and make certain of the win for Murwillumbah. This win became all the more sweeter as news filtered through later in the day that Broadbeach who have been chasing hard in second place dropped two points against Palm Beach. MFC will also have to at their best to avoid dropping points this weekend against the in-form Burleigh Heads at Pizzey Park.

Reserve Grade once again continued their recent rich vein of form getting the better of the Knights 5-4. The score line somewhat flattered the Knights as they collected two very soft goals very late on to give MFC a wake up call. However it was clear on the day that MFC were the better side and played some quality football throughout. Goals this week came from Brent 'Rooney' Malone with two more, Adam Rogers, Keanu Sparkes-Young and Sam Reynolds. It was another superb performance from this side and once again there was plenty of quality and heart on show that will surely have MFC knocking on the door of a finals position come the end of the season.
