Since arriving in Cootamundra last year, local pharmacist Allan Bear, of Beddies Pharmacy, has become one of the Coota Blues AFL club’s biggest supporters.
As well as throwing his support behind in the club in the way of thousands of dollars in sponsorship, Allan rarely misses a home game.
Each Saturday of the footy season, he can be found rugged up on the sideline at Clarke Oval cheering the boys in blue on.
“I try to get to all of the home games and work-permitting watch them out of town as well,” Allan said.
When it comes to what he loves about the Blues, Allan says he just loves his footy in general and believes in supporting things in the local community.
With the Blues having a stellar season so far this year including a number of big wins and looking on track to secure a coveted top four position at the end of the season, Allan said he has certainly jumped on board at the right time, but would be supporting the boys regardless of their win/loss ratio.
“They’re a really strong side, it’s no surprise they’re winning,” Allan said.
When it comes to memorable moments this season, he points to the Blues huge win against Murrumbidgee in round six of the season when the Blues kept their ‘Bidgee opponents to just one goal.
With a final score of Cootamundra 17–14–116 to Murrumbidgee 1–1-7 at Stirling Oval, Allan said it was a great game as there was plenty to cheer for with the Blues constantly in their forward 50 and being rewarded with plenty of goals.
There are certainly plenty of impressive players in the Blues line up with a good mix of youth and experience.
Allan said one of the players he sees stand out each and every week is teenage sensation Dylan McDermott.
“It’s always a great day to go and watch the Blues, I would encourage everyone in town to get down and check out a home game at some point,” Allan said.
Hailing from Bowral, before he moved to Coota, Allan is a big Sydney Swans fan in the major league.
He has been barracking for Sydney for many years and is a member of the club.
He is looking forward to watching this weekend’s Swans verses Greater Western Sydney Giants game on the television and, like more Swans fans, thinks it could be a good percentage building game for Sydney with the Swans short odds for a big win.
